Entrepreneurship Development Club

An Entrepreneurship Development club is functioning in this Institute to inculcate the culture of entrepreneurship among the students and to equip them with the skills, techniques and confidence to act as torch bearers of “Enterprise” for the new generation. Formally inaugurated on 05/08/2005 by Mr IK Ayyappan, General Manager, District Industries Centre, Thrissur, the club has around 300 student members. One of the main objectives of the club is to change the mindset on the negative attitude prevailing in the state for taking up entrepreneurship as a career. All the activities of the club are coordinated by a faculty member and assisted by two elected student office bearers.

The club had organized a number of activities for the students in the past. An industrial visit to Ollur local industries was organized on 03/12/2005 and 43 students visited the site. The secretary and the treasurer of the club had attended a state level convention of ED club members on 26/11/2005. A seminar was conducted at the college auditorium on 23/03/2006 on the topic “ Entrepreneurship, A charming career option”.

The Club organized an interactive program with an entrepreneur for its members entitled “Being an Entrepreneur” on 01/11/2006 on the occasion of the 51st birth anniversary of Kerala state. Mr Ranjith T.R, Executive Director, Suntec tyres (Formerly Deputy Manager, Maruti udyog Ltd, Gurgaon), also son of film actor TG Ravi delivered a motivating lecture on entrepreneurship and interacted with students on various issues related to starting and growing a new venture. The programme was presided over by Dr. Agnisarman Namboodiri , HOD, CSE Department. Dr. TN Sathyanesan, HOD, ME department was also present on the occasion.

The ED Club also conducted an awareness programme on the courses offered by Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad. Mr. Rajan and Mr Shefeer from Local centre of EDII introduced the Open Learning Diploma course in Business Entrepreneurship to the S8 students on 01/11/2006.

Six students from final year batch joined the diploma course later.The students received study materials and other documents from EDII, Ahmedabad. A contact class to the students was conducted on 14/04/2007 by the Faculty of EDII, Mr Sukumaran; who is also the in charge of the local EDII centre.

A case competition on entrepreneurship was conducted as one of the events of the technical symposium, Mechmerize’ 07. Ms Shwetha Wilson of College of Cooperation, Banking and Management, KAU, Mannuthy bagged the first prize of Rs 2000/- for her presentation on Geojit financial services.

Mr. Frank Winther , Business Development manager, Thrane & Thrane company, Denmark was invited to share his experiences as an entrepreneur, aviator and engineer during the technical symposium, Mechmerize’ 07 on 02/02/2007. ED club recently organized an awareness programme for the first year students on 04/12/2008. Prof. Philip Sabu of KAU, Mannuthy delivered a lecture on the occasion.
