The FOSSers club was officially started on March 31st 2006 at 1:30pm under the leadership of Mr.Hiran Venu Gopalan (CSE Student) with the support from PLUS and SPACE.The chief guest was C K Raju,Head of the Dept.,Information Technology,M E S. The speech by him was a great experience;all his words where powerful which is enough to show his all expression towards the free software.After his talk there was a section by Pramode which was a good treat for all except him! The Club was recreated with president as M N Agnisarman Namboodiri( CSE HOD), Advisor as V.N. Krishnachandran ( MCA HOD), Staff in charge as Kaushik M (AP CSE) and Secretary as Manoj K ( ME Student) to promote the use of FOSS. The Club was revived on 1st October 2010 by Dr. M N Agnisarman Namboodiri ( HOD CSE). Mrs Sunitha C ( AP CSE) welcomed the gathering with her welcome speech and Mr Manoj K (ME s7- FOSSers Club Secretary ) proposed the vote of thanks. The inauguration was followed by 3 technical sessions. The first was an introduction to FOSS by Dr. V N Krishna Chandran (HOD – MCA). The next one was "FOSS in daily life" taken by Mr. Hiran Venugopalan who is an alumni and one of the founding members of FOSSers.The last session of the day " Contributing to FOSS " was handled by Mr. Jain Alias Basil who is final year B-tech student at GEC thrissur. Launching GNOME 3.0 ( 8th April 2011 )

FOSSers (Free and Open Source Software users) club has joined in the celebration of the world  wide  launch  of  GNOME  3.0  on  8‐Apr‐11.  The  GNOME  3.0  was  launched  in  the college  by  Dr.  V.  N  Krishnachandran  (HOD  –  MCA).  Awareness  session  of  GNOME  3.0 desktop, distribution of GNOME stickers, badges, T‐shirts were conducted on 8‐Apr‐11.

One Day Workshop on Drupal ( 26th March 2011 )

A one day workshop on Drupal, an Open Source Content Management System was conducted at Vidya Academy of Science And Technology under the initiative of FOSSERs club and Zyxware Technologies on 26th March 2011. Mr. Vimal Joseph from Zyxware Technologies handled the sessions.The workshop was designed for beginner level and was divided into two sessions. In the first session we covered basic topics such as Installing Drupal, Basic Configuration, Creating Content, Themes, and Modules. In the latter session, Content types and Views was covered in detail. About 20 candidates from various colleges and organizations attended the workshop.

Swatantra malayalam Computing camp ( 2nd October 2010 ) On the 2nd October 2010 the FOSSers club organized its first revival event in association with Zyxware Technologies(www.zyxware.com) .The SMC [ Swatantra malayalam Computing ] camp contributed 100 + words for malayalam auto-correct database. One Day Developer Camp ( 29th November 2010 ) For students with a passion for programming computers, Vidya Academy of Science and Technology (VAST- www.vidyaacademy.ac.in), Thrissur and Zyxware Technologies(www.zyxware.com) in association with SMC (swathanthra malayalam computing - wiki.smc.org.in) and Free Software User's group Thrissur, organised a developer camp at VAST campus on 29th-November-2010.
