Vidya Academy of Sceince & Technology organized three day KTU Orientation Programme for the 2017-18 admitted B.Tech students.

Electronics & Communication Engineering & Electrical & Electronics Engineering

The orientation programme for ECE and EEE students were conducted in S-305.

26/7/2017:

The programme started at 9.15 a.m. Dr V N Krishnachandran(Vice Principal) welcomed the students of both the branches. Dr S Swapna Kumar( HoD, ECE) addressed the gathering. The first session on Drawing was handled by Mr. Alex Chacko( ME Dept.). He introduced the concept and need for Engineering Drawing. This was followed by the session handled by Mr. Ramesh C R( ECE ) on Design Engineering. This was an interactive session. Role of computers in Engineering was described by Ms. Greeshma, Ms. Remya P S and Ms. Vidya from CSE dept. The morning session came to an end at 12.35 p.m. The afternoon session on basic Science & Engg began at 2.15 p.m. The role of mathematics, chemistry, physics and biology was described by Dr. S Satheesh, Dr. Sobha A P, Mr. Liju Augustine and Ms. Arundhathi respectively. The fundamental principles of Engineering was explained by Mr. Ramesh C R. In this session various videos were displayed. The session came to an end at 4.20 p.m. Almost 107/110 students attended the session.

27/7/2017:

After the common session in the auditorium, the students of ECE dept were addressed by the HOD and class tutors in the venue S 304. In this session HoD , Ms. Honey Mol P K, and Mr. Ramesh C R gave a detailed picture of the activities in the department, curriculum, rules & regulations of KTU, code of conduct etc. The various job opportunities/ add on courses were also briefed in this session. Afternoon session was handled by Ms. Asha ( Counsellor) for 1 hour and then the students were taken to various labs of ECE dept.

28/7/2017:

The morning session on Science & Engineering was handled by Dr Sudha Balagopal along with the teachers and students of NSS team. This was a very interactive session where the students were divided into 6/7 groups and various activities were given to them. This was evaluated by teachers and the group which scored highest marks were also given prizes. In the afternoon session Ms. Divya Radhakrishnan spoke about the significance of humanities. A brief idea about the curriculum/ scheme was given by Mr. Rakesh V S and Ms. Resmi K Rajan.Feedback were taken from students. Finally the orientation programme came to an end at 4.00 p.m.

Computer Sceince & Engineering

The orientation programe for CSE students were conducted in NB-3-305.

26/7/2017:

The programe started at 9.00 a.m. Dr Ramani Bai(HOD,CSE) welcomed the students of both the branches. Prof. Sunitha C(Assoc.Professor,CSE) addressed the gathering. The first session on Mathematics was handled by Dr .Satheesh S( HOD,AS Dept.). He introduced the concept and need for Engineering Mathematics. This was followed by the session handled by Prof. Liju Augustine( Asst.Prof ) on Engineering Physics. The Engineering Chemistry was handled by Dr Sobha AP(Assoc Professor) which was very interactive and informative for the students.The session was followed by class on Yoga and physical Education which was taken by Prof Arundhathi Sasikumar(Assoc Prof,Dept of Phy.Education).She focused on need of exercises and yoga in the academic life of students.Later the session on Engineering Principles were taken from the Professors in ECE and EEE Department. The morning session came to an end at 12.35 p.m. The afternoon session on basic Science ,Engg & Technology began at 1.30 p.m.The session was very well engaged by Dr Sudha Balagopalan ,(Principal) which also included addressing the both batches.She focuses on punctuality and integrity required among students of the college. The session was handled along with the teachers and students of NSS team. This was a very interactive session where the students were divided into 6/7 groups and various activities were given to them. This was evaluated by teachers and the group which scored highest marks were also given prizes. The session came to an end at 4.20 p.m. Almost 65/115 students attended the session.

27/7/2017:

After the common session in the auditorium, the students of CSE dept were addressed by the HOD and class tutors in the venue NB-3-305.In this session HoD gave a detailed picture of the activities in the department.The various job opportunities/ add on courses /Workshops were also briefed in this session.It was followed by a motivational talk by Ms. Asha TV( Counsellor) for 1 hour .There was a Group tutor Interaction with parents of students . Their doubts were addressed by the respective Group tutors . The morning session came to an end at 12.35 p.m. The afternoon session witnessed a very interactive and brainstorming session by Dr. Latha P Raj(SWD) for the parents of all first year students in the auditorium.Meanwhile a group tutor interaction was handled for students in the Drawing Hall(NB-3-305). The students doubts on academic related were addressed by the respective group tutors. The session came to an end at 4.20p.m. Almost 56/115 students attended the session.

28/7/2017:

The morning session handled by Prof. Divya Radhakrishnan spoke about the significance of humanities.Science & Engineering. A brief idea about the curriculum/ scheme /Code of conduct was given by Prof. Sunitha C(Assoc.Professor).The drawing session was very well described by Prof Dileep K(HOD,Production Dept) with videos displayed. The morning session came to an end at 12.35 p.m. There was a video displayed on Talk by Metro Man E. Sreedharan. The video was very informative which focused on punctuality and integrity to be followed in the daily life of a person .This was followed by a session on the Design and role of Computers by Prof Amal Ganesh and Prof Nakulraj KR. Feedback were taken from students. Finally the orientation programe came to an end at 4.00 p.m.

Mechanical Engineering & Production Engineering

The orientation programme for ME and PE students was conducted in drawing hall S-304.

26/7/2017:

The programme commenced at 9.15 A.M. Prof. Dileep K. (HoD In charge, ME Dept.) welcomed  and addressed the newly joined students of both the branches. The first session was on Life Skills and was handled by Ms. Divya Radhakrishnan (Humanities Dept.). She introduced the concept and relevance of the topic to the audience. The next session was handled by Prof. Dileep K (ME) and an extensive coverage of KTU’s latest curriculum was done by him for the students. The morning session came to an end at 12.35 PM. The afternoon session commenced at 2.15 PM. A session on Engineering Graphics was handled by Mr. Alex Chacko. C (ME). He introduced the subject, Engineering Graphics and explained the importance and applications of it. The next session was handled by Mr. Pillu. V Mohan (ME) on Design Engineering. He discussed about the objectives and outcomes of the course through an interactive session. Role of computers in Engineering was interestingly delivered by Dr. Sooraj K Prabha from Mechanical Engineering Department. The session came to an end at 4.20 p.m. A total of 128 students attended the day’s sessions.

27/7/2017: 

After the common sessions in the auditorium, the students and parents of ME Dept. were welcomed and later addressed by Prof. Dileep K (H.o.D in Charge) and class tutors in the auditorium. In this session H.o.D (In Charge) , Mr. Arun K L, Mr. Sarath Babu R. and Mr. Midhun P gave a detailed information about various areas of functioning of the department, namely curriculum, rules & regulations of KTU, code of conduct, etc. The session also covered various job opportunities of the branch and about the add on courses conducted for the students. In the afternoon, the students were addressed by the respective tutors in the department and were later taken to various labs of the dept.

28/7/2017:  

In the morning session, the role of  mathematics, chemistry, physics and biology was described by  Dr. S Satheesh, Dr. Sobha A P, Mr. Liju Augustine and Ms. Arundhathi  respectively. The fundamental principles of Engineering were explained by Mr. Ramesh C R. In this session, videos highlighting the application areas of different branches of engineering were shown to the students. The Evening session on Science & Engineering was handled by Dr. Sudha Balagopal (Principal) along with the teachers and student volunteers from NSS team. This was a very interesting session with some interactive group activities. The students gave very positive feedback about this session. Prizes were awarded to the group which scored highest marks. At 4.00 PM,  the orientation programme came to an end.

Civil Engineering

Venue : Main Seminar hall

Day 1 (26/07/2017):

The programme started at 9.15 am. Prof. K V Leela, HOD, Civil department welcomed students to the programme. The first session was on science, engineering and technology which was handled by Dr. Sudha Balagopalan (Principal, VAST) and NSS team. It was an interactive session, where students were made to do group activities in which they were able to showcase their creativity in solving real life problems. The students were evaluated as groups and as a token of appreciation, the best group was awarded with small gifts.

The afternoon session on curriculum was handled by Prof. K V Leela. She started the session by stating the mission and vision of the college. The concept of curriculum with reference to the graduate attributes of ABET was discussed in this session. Different courses under civil engineering programme and their relevance was explained. The session was for 1.5 hours. After the session on curriculum, First year group tutors (Ms. Chithra M, Ms. Aida Isac) discussed important rules and regulations of KTU. In the next session, Ms. Divya Radhakrishnan spoke about the significance of humanities & economics in relation to the field of engineering as well as society as a whole. The session came to an end by 4.20 pm.

Day 2 (27/07/2017):

Programme started at 9.15 am. The parents of first year students were also invited to attend the second day of KTU orientation programme. The first session was a common session in auditorium in which all the first year students and parents were addressed by the Principal, Executive director and PTA president of the college. The session came to an end by 10.45 am and thereafter the students and parents were directed to the respective departments. In the second session, Prof. K V Leela, HOD, CE addressed first year CE students and their parents. The importance of attendance of students and code of conduct to be practiced in the campus was stressed upon. The first year group tutors were introduced. All the parents were provided with a copy of academic calendar and rules and regulations of KTU. After this session, group tutors interacted with their respective students in their respective class rooms. In the afternoon session, students along with their group tutors visited library, bank and first year labs. After this, a motivational talk by Ms. Asha (Counsellor) was arranged for students. Meanwhile, Dr. Latha Raj, Student welfare director addressed parents of first year students in the auditorium.

Day 3 (28/07/2017):

The morning session on Design, drawing and role of computers was handled by K.V.Leela, Dr Justine, Mr. Nithin Mohan and Mr. Gokul R as a team. Further, videos showcasing some of the great feats in the field of civil engineering were shown to the students. The afternoon session on basic Science & Engineering began at 1.30 pm. The role of mathematics, chemistry, physics and biology in engineering was described by Dr. S Satheesh, Dr. Sobha A P, Mr. Liju Augustine and Ms. Arundhathi respectively.  The orientation programme came to an end at 4.25 p.m.
