Scholarship and Endowment Prize Distribution Function 2012
The Scholarship and Endowment Prize Distribution Function 2011 -12, one of the most exalted events of the College, was held in the Auditorium on 21, June 2011.
The event was exalted by the presence of Dr. E. Sreedharan, Principal Advisor to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. The chief guest inaugurated the function by lighting the traditional lamp.Stressing the importance of integrity, punctuality and personal health in addition to professional competence to success in their chosen field, the chief guest added that India was being held back by its mismanagement of human resources.
Scholarships worth a total of Rs. 1.6 Crore were distributed among 85 students of the college run by Vidya International Charitable Trust. Ms. Sujata Madhav (Head of Infrastructure Business for India, TCS) and Ms. Reeja George (Academic Relationship Manager - Kerala, TCS) were special guests. Dr. Sudha Balagopalan (Principal VAST) introduced the guests. Mr. P.K Asokan (Chairman, VICT) presided over the meeting and Mr. K Muraleedharan (Founder Chairman, VICT) distributed the 27 endowment prizes. Mr. Suresh Varrier (PTA President), Mr. Ajin Aravind (Alumni Representative), Dr. S. P Subramanian (former Principal), Dr. P. Pratapachandran Nair (Professor Emeritus), Prof. K.C. John (Staff Club representative), Mr. Hariprasad K (Student Senate Secretary) delivered felicitations.
Er. G. Mohanachandran (Executive Director VICT) welcomed the gathering and Dr. V.N Krishnachandran (Vice-Principal and Co-ordinator, Organizing Committee) proposed the Vote of Thanks.

‘Brahma’- Vidya Social Outreach Programme at RMLP School, Velur
As a part of “Brahma”- Vidya Social Outreach Programme National Service Scheme Units organized a student benefictory programme at RMLP School, Velur on 14th October 2011. The college management donated three used computers and the NSS units handed over a learning kit which includes a note book, pen, pencil, eraser, ruler, sharpener and a pouch to all the 200 students of the school. In a gathering of the students and parents called “Bala Sabha” the computers were handed over by Prof. M. Mohandas HOD, Department of Humanities to the School Headmistress Mrs. Reena Thomas.The learning kit was handed over to the school leader by the NSS Programme Officer Mr. K.V.Ramesh. Sweets were distributed to mark the joyous occasion. Smt. Sapna Rasheed Ward member, School PTA President Mr. Benny C F, John Joffy master, parents, teachers and members of staff, NSS volunteers from the college attended the function.

Brahma Smruthi
Rich tributes were paid to Sri.K.R.Brahmadathan, founder Executive Director of Vidya International Charitable Trust, on his first death anniversary. A function “BRAHMA SMRUTHI” was arranged at the college auditorium between 9.30 am – 2.00 pm on 17th Sep 2011
Sri.G.Mohananchandran, Executive Director, VICT delivered the welcome address and Sri.P.K Asokan, Chairman, VICT delivered the inaugural address. They highlighted the honorable and dedicated service rendered by Sri.K.R.Brahmadathan whose hard work and sincere efforts has enabled Vidya to become one among the leading institutions in the field of engineering education in the state today.
The programme was inaugurated by Sri.K.P.Rajendran, former Revenue Minister who paid floral tributes to Sri.K.R.Brahmadathanand shared his memorable experiences.
Sreemad Saigon Swami who offered his blessing to “BRAHMA SMRUTHI” shared his experience with Sri.K.R.B and delivered a talk on Yoga and meditation and its significance in our day today life.
To fulfill the initiatives taken by Sri.KRB, the college decided to conduct a career guidance programme in the schools nearby to the college premises and also to start a unit of Bramha-Yoga centre in the college. The inauguration of the career guidance programme was done by Sri.T.N Jayachandran , IAS (Retd) who also shared his memorable experiences about Shri.KRB.
Notable personalities from various walks of life, like Fr. Jomian, Thalakkottukara , Sri.T.K Vijayaraghavan, former President of Cochin Devasom Board, Prof K.B Ravi, Secretary, Kocheri trust, Sri.K.B.Komalakumar,Bramha-Yoga centre, Thrissur, Prof C.P Mathew, Member, District Sports council, Sri K.V Abdu, Chairman, KSEB Retired Engineers Forum, Thrissur felicitated.
Sri Sudhakaran Pollaserry, VICT, Sri.D.P Vijayan, VICT, Dr.V M Monaharan, Vice-Chairman of Steering Committee and Dr. P.Pratapachandran Nair, former Principal, VAST also felicitated.
The last session of the programme was an excellent demonstration of several beneficial Yoga-asanas by the Bramha-Yoga Centre, Thrissur. This was arranged in the memory of Sri.KRB who was the founder of the centre; Sri.KRB had played a great role in propagating yoga and meditation among several personalities in and outside the country.
In memory of Sri.KRB, college has also decided to start a unit of Bramha-Yoga centre in the campus which shall be open to all in the society. The inauguration of the unit was done by Sri.Komala Kumar, Bramha-Yoga centre, Thrissur

Scholarship and Endowment distribution function 2011
The Scholarship and Endowment Prize Distribution Function 2010 ‐11, one of the most prestigious events of the College, was held in the Auditorium on 06 July 2011. The event was honoured with the presence of Padma Sri R K Krishnakumar, Director, Tata Sons, as Chief Guest. Other distinguished guests on the occasion were Dr K Kesavasamy, the Global Head of TCS Academic Interface Programme and also the Head of TCS, Trivandrum, and Dr John Joseph Corporate Manager for TCS Academic Interface Programme and TCS Academic Relationship Manager for the Kerala region. The function, chaired by Dr V S Ajaikumar, Vice‐Chairman, VICT, began with a prayer. After Presidential address and the ceremonial lighting of the traditional lamp, Mr R K Krishnakumar, Chief Guest of the occasion, addressed the audience. In his inspiring talk he suggested several steps that could be taken to improve the standard of the engineering education in this College. One of his major suggestions was to start multi‐disciplinary courses urgently. That is the need of the hour, he said. Dr Kesavasamy then spoke to the audience. He stressed on the qualities to be acquired by an aspiring computer professional for success in career. Dr John Joseph also spoke felicitating the function and also the scholarship awarded and endowment prize winning students. Mr K Muraleedharan, Founder Chairman, enlightened the audience about the beginnings of the Trust, its ideals, its vision and its mission. Er G Mohanachandran, Executive Director, explained the various Scholarship schemes available to the students. He also talked about the various Endowment Schemes. Mr Krishnakumar distributed certificates to all Scholarship awarded students.
The Endowment Prizes were distributed by the endowers themselves. All the endowers had been specially invited to the function. They were honored by inviting them to the dais for joining the distinguished guests. Mr Suresh Varrier, President of PTA, Mr Skariya P D, Secretary of Staff Club and Mr Hijas K M, Secretary of Student Senate, felicitated the scholarship awarded and Endowment Prize winning students. Dr P Prathapachandran Nair, former Principal, welcomed the guests and the audience. Dr V N Krishnachandran, Coordinator, Organising Committee, proposed vote of thanks. The Organising Committee had invited all Trustees, Honorary Advisers, all students, all parents, all staff, and several other important personalities to the function.
All participants were served tea and refreshments before the start of the program. All staff and all parents of scholarship awarded and Endowment Prize winning students were given lunch. The distinguished guests were served lunch separately where they were joined by select senior staff and Trust officials. Induction Programme‐ NRI Students The NRI bridge course – induction programme was held on 11/07/2011 at the main seminar hall. The programme started with prayer. Dr. S. P. Subramanian, Principal Vast welcomed the gathering. He explained the relevance of bridge course to the NRI students. Er. G Mohanachandran Executive Director, VICT presided over the function. Dr. P Prathapachandran Nair, Prof M Mohandas, Prof V A Sudhakaran, Prof Soolapani Warrier, Prof. K C John, Dr. Sudha Balagopal, Asst Prof. Sunitha C were addressed the audience. Prof P C John, Advisor NRI forum proposed vote of thanks. The classes will commence on 13th July Wednesday at 9 am. The classes include Engg. Graphics, Engg Mechanics, Engg. MathematicsI & II, Engg. Physics and co‐curricular activities. Infosys Campus Connect Road show Infosys Campus Connect Road show conducted at College Auditorium on Monday, July 04, 2011. Mr. Hari. S from Infosys conducted this workshop for S5 and S7 students from all branches. He also had session with the faculty members associated with the program from both the IT and Soft Skills stream.

Blood Donation & Group Identification Camp 2010-11
College National Service Scheme units & Rotaract Club organized a blood donation and group identification camp for the students and staff on 8th July 2010 , in the campus, in co-operation with Govt. Medical College Blood bank, Thrissur. Dr. Sajith led the medical team and rendered an excellent service for our institution.63 volunteers donated blood to the blood bank and 137 students got blood group identification service.The camp was a grand success and humanitarian gesture of the students was highly appreciated by the college authorities and the public.

Mass Blood Donation Camp 2010-11
College National Service Scheme units and Rotaract Club of VAST jointly organized a mass Blood Donation Camp on 1st Oct 2010 in observance of National Blood Donation Day. The Inaugural function started with homage to our beloved Dr. D. Balakrishnan and Er. K.R. Brahmadathan who left us. Mr. Ambareesh P Chairman College Senate welcomed the gathering. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Sreedevi Deputy District Medical Officer, TCR. The meeting was presided over by the Principal Dr. S.P. Subramanian and there was a Special address by our Executive Director Er. G. Mohanachandran. Sri. P.V. Shaji President PTA VAST felicitated the programme. Vote of Thanks was delivered by Mr. Nirmal P.G. National Service Scheme Unit Secretary. The Blood Banks from Govt. Medical College TCR, District Hospital TCR, Amala Medical College TCR and Jubilee Mission Medical College Hospital TCR, rendered an excellent service for smooth organization of the Mass Blood Donation Camp. 302 students voluntarily came forward to donate blood. This was the highest number of blood donation by an Educational Institution in a single Day Blood Donation camp in Kerala.

QUEST 2010
Rotaract Club of VAST organized QUEST 2010 – IV Rtn. Biju Memorial All Kerala Intercollegiate Quiz Competition in the Campus on 10th Nov 2010. There were 25 teams representing various institutions all over Kerala. The competition held in two rounds. Top 8 teams were selected to the Finals based on the performance in the Preliminary written round.

The Calicut University Inter Collegiate Table Tennis Tournament
Sri. Igni Mathew, President, District Sports Council, Thrissur, inaugurated the championship, Dr. M.N. Agnisarman Namboodiri, Principal in Charge, presided over the function. Prof. V.A Sudhakaran,HoD, Department of Civil Engineering welcomed the gathering. Dr.P.Pratapachandran Nair, Professor Emeritus, distributed memento to the chief guest. In the men championship Vidya Academy of science and Technology retained the championship for the sixth consecutive year by defeating NSS engineering college, Palakkad.
In the women championship Providence College, Calicut secured the Championship by defeating Vidya Academy of science and Technology.

Workshop on J2EE Technologies
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and the Department of Computer Applications have organized a two day faculty enablement workshop in J2EE Technologies on July 29 & 30, 2010. The workshop was organized in collaboration with the Campus Connect team of Infosys Technologies Ltd.
The objective of this workshop was to provide an insight into J2EE Technologies and thereby enabling the faculty to guide their students in doing projects using these technologies. This two day workshop focused on the JSP technology along with implementing a project.
Mr. Hari S (Senior Member E&R), Mrs. Manju K (Lead E&R), Mrs. Lavanya Anand (Member E&R) and Mr. Pramod Balachandran (Sr. Project Mgr) of Infosys Technologies Ltd conducted sessions on J2EE Technologies. 21 faculty members from other engineering colleges in the state participated in this training program. The workshop was highly beneficial for the internal as well as external participants in gaining knowledge in J2EE Technologies.

Yoga Awareness Programme & Honouring the achievers
An introduction programme on Yoga and honouring the College Yoga team which secured Third position in the Calicut University Inter Collegiate Championship held at NSS College Nenmara was organized on 11.02.10 at College Main Conference Hall at 2.30pm. Our Executive Director, Er. K.R. Brahmadathan delivered an interesting talk on Yoga, its principles & Benefits. Principal Dr. S.P. Subramanian presided over the function. Republic Day Celebration
The 61st Republic Day of our mother land was celebrated at the campus in a color full manner. The National Service scheme units organized debate . In the debate Mr.Suneesh .R.C and Vazir Rehman (Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering) Mr.Robieo.R.Chazhoor and Mr.Joel Paul James (S1 S2F Batch), Mr.Madhav.K and Anoop.K.P (Department of Production engineering) secured first, second and third place respectively. In the poster making competition Mr.Chaithanyan.M of S1 S2 C batch, Mr.Sreehari.K.M of MCA and Miss.Sangeetha of the department of Civil Engineering secured first, second and third place respectively.
