The Department of ECE, with immense pride, announces that Dr. Abitha M A (Asso Prof, ECE Dept) has secured a prestigious UK Design Patent (Design No. 6488891) for her innovative design of a Surgical Robotic Arm Assembly with an Integrated AI Camera Housing, granted on 05 December 2025. This breakthrough represents a significant advancement in intelligent medical robotics.

Dr. Abitha,s design introduces a compact AI-driven imaging module embedded directly into the robotic arm, eliminating the limitations of externally mounted cameras. The system integrates high-resolution optical sensors, 3D stereoscopic imaging, illumination units, and real-time AI processing for tissue recognition and tool tracking. By synchronizing the camera with the robotic arm’s motion, the invention provides uninterrupted, optimized visualization during minimally invasive surgery.
